The Rockies traveled to Glendale today to take on the Chicago White Sox in what was the only match up of the Spring between the two clubs. In what was a pitching duel, the Rockies dropped today’s game 3-1 to even their Cactus League record at 7-7. Left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz started the contest for Colorado and allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Pomeranz began the game by striking out the side in the first. In addition to his three strikeouts, Pomeranz had four groundball outs during his 4.0-inning stint. Chris Sale started the game for the White Sox and tossed 5.0 scoreless innings before Yorvit Torrealba put the Rockies on the board in the 6th with a solo home run to left field off Sale. The home run was Torrealba’s first of the Spring. Michael Cuddyer provided the Rockies only multi-hit game of the day, going 2-for-3 with a double. In relief of Pomeranz, Chris Volstad (2.0 ip) and Rex Brothers (1.0 ip) each had scoreless outings, while Bobby Cassevah allowed one run in his 1.0 inning of work, his first appearance for the Rockies this Spring.

The Rockies will host their Salt River Fields at Talking Stick neighbors tomorrow, the Arizona Diamondbacks, at home tomorrow at 1:10 p.m. RHP Tyler Chatwood is slated to start the game for the Rockies and will face Diamondbacks LHP Wade Miley.
