Rams LB James named to CFPA Linebacker Trophy watch list

FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State sophomore linebacker Cory James has been named to the College Football Performance Awards 2013 CFPA Linebacker Trophy preseason watch list.

This award is given to the nation’s top linebacker based on scientific rankings that measures how the athlete increased the overall effectiveness of his team.

James burst onto the scene in 2012 as a redshirt freshman. In his first game against Colorado, James recorded seven tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. By the end of his 2012 campaign he registered 54 tackles and 7.5 sacks, a freshman sack record at Colorado State.

After his outstanding freshman season, James earned second-team Freshman All-America byCollege Football News, second-team All-Freshman by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview, and was named to the Freshman All-America team by the Football Writers Association of America.

James is among 41 players selected to the preseason watch list that includes six other linebackers from the Mountain West.

Most recently, James was named to Phil Steele’s second-team preseason All-MW.

Last week running back Chris Nwoke and tight end Crockett Gillmore were named to CFPA’s 2013 Running Back Trophy and Tight End Trophy watch list, respectively.
