ROCKIES AND RHP MATT BELISLE AGREE ON CONTRACT EXTENSION

DENVER –The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a contract extension with right-handed relief pitcher Matt Belisle through 2013, with a mutual option for 2014.

Belisle, 31, recorded a career-high 10 wins in 2011, which were the most relief wins in the Majors and the second-most wins among all pitchers on the Rockies staff. He finished the season going 10-4 with a 3.25 ERA (72.0 ip, 26 er) while walking 14 and striking out 58. The Austin, TX native set a career-high with 76 appearances for the Rockies in 2010 while also recording a career-low 2.93 ERA (92.0 ip, 30 er) for Colorado. Over the past two seasons, Belisle has combined to appear in 150 games for the Rockies while posting a 17-9 record with a 3.07 ERA (164.0 ip, 56 er).

Belisle joined Rockies as a Spring Training non-roster invitee and appeared in 24 games for the club in 2009. In eight Major League seasons, the right-hander has a career record of 36-32 with a 4.48 ERA (536.2 ip, 267 er), 401 strikeouts and 131 walks in 306 appearances, 43 starts. Belisle was originally selected by Atlanta in the second round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft.
