DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has signed left-handed pitcher Boone Logan to a three-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy. To make room on the 40-man roster for Logan, the Rockies have designated right-handed pitcher Collin McHugh for assignment.

Logan, 29, is a veteran of eight Major League seasons with the New York Yankees (2010-13), Atlanta (2009) and the Chicago White Sox (2006-08). Over 420 career Major League games, all in relief, the 6-foot-5 left-hander is 24-12 with 2 saves and a 4.39 ERA (303.2 ip, 148 er), 132 walks and 304 strikeouts. Over his last four seasons, all with the Yankees, Logan has combined to go 19-7 with a 3.38 ERA (176.0 ip, 66 er), 74 walks and 202 strikeouts in 256 games. The San Antonio, TX native is coming off a season in 2013 in which he posted a 5-2 record with a 3.23 ERA (39.0 ip, 14 er), 13 walks and 50 strikeouts in 61 games for New York.

Since he joined the Yankees in 2010, Logan’s 10.33 strikeout per 9.0 innings pitched rate (202 SO/176.0 IP) is fifth-highest among Major League left-handed relievers (minimum 100.0 ip). Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 20th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, Logan has made at least 50 relief appearances in six of his seven full Major League seasons (since 2007).

McHugh, 26, made a total of seven appearances/five starts in the Major Leagues between Colorado and the New York Mets in 2013. Between the two stops he combined to go 0-4 with a 10.04 ERA (26.0 ip, 29 er), 5 walks and 11 strikeouts. The Berry College product was acquired from the New York Mets on June 18 for outfielder Eric Young Jr. In 15 career Major League games/nine starts he has gone 0-8 with an 8.94 ERA (47.1 ip, 47 er).

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
