NASHVILLE, TN – With the third selection in the Major League phase of today’s Rule 5 Draft, the Colorado Rockies selected left-handed pitcher Daniel Rosenbaum off the Triple-A Syracuse roster of the Washington Nationals. Rosenbaum is the first player the Rockies have selected in the Rule 5 Draft since they selected, and subsequently traded to Seattle, left-handed pitcher Luis E. Gonzalez in 2005 from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rosenbaum, 25, spent the 2012 season at Double-A Harrisburg in the Nationals organization and was named to the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star team. In 26 starts for Harrisburg in 2012, Rosenbaum went 8-10 with a 3.94 ERA (155.1 ip, 68 er), 39 walks and 99 strikeouts. Rosenbaum was originally selected by Washington in the 22nd round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Xavier University. In his four Minor League seasons, Rosenbaum is 26-24 with a 2.84 ERA (507.2 ip, 160 er), 141 walks and 387 strikeouts in 89 games/84 starts. Rosenbaum was rated the 23rd best prospect in the Nationals organization by Baseball America prior to the 2012 season.
The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
