ARIZONA – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled catcher Michael McKenry from Triple-A Colorado Springs. In addition, the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Chad Bettis to Triple-A Colorado Springs. McKenry (#8) will be available for tonight’s Rockies vs. Mets game at Coors Field (6:10 p.m. MDT).

McKenry, 29, began the season at Triple-A, where he has hit .300 (15-for-50) with 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 11 RBI and 6 runs in 13 games for the Sky Sox. McKenry is appearing on a Major League active roster for the fifth-straight season, second with the Rockies (also 2010). The 5-foot-10 catcher spent the last three seasons in the Pirates organization where he appeared in 187 Major League games from 2011-13. In 193 career Major League games, McKenry has hit .223 (121-for-543) with 32 doubles, 17 home runs, 64 RBI and 51 runs. The Knoxville, TN native was signed by Colorado as a Minor League free agent on January 16th and added to the 40-man roster on March 20th. He was originally drafted by Colorado in the seventh round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Bettis, 24, is being optioned to Triple-A for the second time this season. He began the season on the Rockies Opening Day roster for the first time in his career before he was optioned to Triple-A on April 25th. In 12 Major League games this season, Bettis has gone 0-1 with an 8.78 ERA (13.1 ip, 13 er). He also made one scoreless appearance (2.0 ip) with the Sky Sox. In 28 career Major League games, including eight starts, Bettis is 1-4 with a 6.36 ERA (58.0 ip, 41 er), 24 walks and 37 strikeouts. The 6-foot-1 right-hander was originally drafted by Colorado in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
