DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has agreed to a one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jeff Francis. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.
Francis, 31, returns to Colorado for the second-straight season, and for what will be his 11th season as a member of the Rockies organization. Originally drafted by Colorado in the first round (9th overall) of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, Francis is 67-73 with a 4.86 ERA (1178.2 ip, 636 er) in 205 career Major League games with Colorado (2004-2010, 2012) and Kansas City (2011). The Vancouver, British Columbia native returned to the Rockies in 2012 and went 6-7 with a 5.58 ERA (113.0 ip, 70 er) in 24 starts for the club.
Francis ranks among the Rockies all-time leaders in wins (61, 2nd), innings pitched (995.2, 2nd), starts (173, 2nd), strikeouts (679, 3rd) and winning percentage (.517, 5th). The left-hander’s 17 wins in 2007 are the most in a single season in franchise history for a left-handed pitcher. His 33 career wins at Coors Field (84 starts) are also the 2nd-most for a pitcher all-time, trailing only the 36 career victories Aaron Cook has at Coors Field (104 starts).
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
