SCOTTSDALE – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has acquired infielder Reid Brignac from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations and a player to be named later. Additionally, the Rockies have placed left-handed pitcher Edwar Cabrera on the 60-day disabled list with a left shoulder impingement.

Brignac, 27, split the 2012 season between Triple-A Durham and in the Majors with Tampa Bay. In 16 games for the Rays, Brignac batted .095 (2-for-21). The 6-foot-3 middle infielder has played 256 career Major League games and owns a career average of .227 (152-for-671) with 25 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs and 67 RBI. The left-handed hitter set career-highs in nearly every category in 2010, when he batted .256 (77-for-301) with 13 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs and 45 RBI. The native of Saint Amant, Louisiana was drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round (45th overall) of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft out of St. Amant High School.

Cabrera, 25, split the 2012 season between Double-A Tulsa, Triple-A Colorado Springs and in the Majors with Colorado. Between Tulsa and Colorado Springs, Cabrera went 11-5 with a 3.05 ERA (129.2 ip, 44 er), 35 walks and 121 strikeouts in 21 starts. Cabrera made two starts with Colorado in his first experience in the Majors, going 0-2 with a 11.12 ERA (5.2 ip, 7 er) in his two starts. Cabrera was originally signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on March 5, 2008 out of the Dominican Republic.
