PUEBLO, CO – Pueblo Central High School Athletic/Activities Director, Dave Craddock, has announced the hiring of Jeremy Mercer (picture attached) as the school’s new head football coach. Mercer most recently served as the Co-Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Coach at the College of the Desert, in Palm Desert, CA. He has five years of coaching experience, all at the small college level.
“We are extremely lucky to have Jeremy as our next head football coach,” said Craddock. “He possesses a great balance of experience and enthusiasm, which fits with the foundation of our historic football program.”
Mercer is a Colorado native, who grew up in Lakewood and attended Green Mountain High School. He attended Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University) and played football for the Mavericks.
Central will be his first head coaching job and Mercer is well aware of the traditions surrounding his new position. “Pueblo is a fantastic football community and a place that takes pride in winning football programs,” noted Mercer. “Behind the great tradition this school has and the support of the community, Pueblo Central can and will get back to the top.”
Mercer prides himself on teaching more than just the Xs and Os of football. “It’s important that we build high character in our youth and hopefully some of that translates to the football field,” Mercer added.
“We look forward to Jeremy leading our student athletes in a positive direction, both on and off the field,” echoed Craddock.
