Organizers of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge estimate that more than 1 million people will line Colorado roads this week to watch some of the world's top cyclists.

The nearly 700-mile race started Monday morning in Durango. Cyclists are riding through Mancos and Dolores, over Lizard Head Pass and ending in Telluride.

The Durango Herald reports that it's the biggest event the city has ever hosted. City manager Ron Le-Blanc encouraged people to show up along the route, make a lot of noise and wear a costume, if possible.

The race ends Sunday in Denver.
