The Denver Nuggets and coach George Karl have parted ways, according to a report by Yahoo Sports and confirmed by Ken Berger of CBSSports.com.
Karl was reportedly pushing for a contract extension but ownership wasn't prepared to give him one. Karl's departure comes shortly after Masai Ujiri, the league's executive of the year, left to become general manager of the Toronto Raptors.
Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried tweeted, "So we lost a GM now a coach what's next!?"
Karl guided the third-youngest team in the NBA to the third-best record in the Western Conference with a franchise-record 57 wins, but the Nuggets were bounced from the first round of the playoffs for the fourth straight season.
Karl had just won this year's NBA Coach of the Year award.
