A new rule is affecting what Broncos fans can bring into games. The NFL is implementing a new "carry-in" policy that limits the types of bags and purses that are allowed into the stadium.
That rule goes into affect today.
The NFL says only clear plastic bags the size of a grocery bag or gallon Ziplock bag will be allowed inside the gates.
The rule also applies to purses. The only exception is a small clutch purse, but it cannot be any larger than a hand.
The league says the new policy will help fans get through lines and into the stadium faster by speeding up the screening process.
Opponents of the new rule have a number of complaints. They say it unfairly targets women and invades privacy. Others say they suspect it's a ploy to get fans to purchase the special bags with the team logo on them.
This is the policy posted on the NFL website:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.” (Official NFL team logo clear plastic tote bags will be available through club merchandise outlets).
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
- Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags.
- An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.
