Mountain Lions Women's Golf Ninth in Pueblo After First Round in Program History

PUEBLO WEST, Colo. – In the first round of collegiate golf for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women’s program, Laura Gritz shot an 83 (40-43) to lead the Mountain Lions in the first round of the first RMAC event today at the Desert Hawk Golf Course. UCCS is ninth out of the 15 teams in the tournament with a team score of 353.

Gritz is tied for No. 27 among the 76 golfers, and her score of 40 on the first nine holes tied for No. 22. She is 11 strokes over par and 13 strokes off the leader.

Forre Zook and Jamie Zook shot an 89 (42-47) and 90 (50-40), respectively. Jamie Zook’s 40 on the final nine holes ranked No. 14 among the golfers in the opening round. Raquell Castillo provided the final team score with a 91 (42-49).

The Mountain Lions are seven strokes behind Dominican University, and 17 strokes behind the Regis, the nearest conference competitor. UCCS is two strokes ahead of Metro State, who is also in its first season of women’s golf, and is also leading conference teams Black Hills State, Chadron State and Colorado Christian.

The final round begins at 9 a.m., on Sunday morning.
