AMARILLO, Texas - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs finished the inaugural fall campaign with the best tournament score of the season and finished No. 13 at the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Stampede today at the Tascosa Country Club. Laura Gritz led the Mountain Lions with a 165 to match her best performance relative to par this season.
UCCS improved two spots in the team standings from the first round as teams battled wind gusts of 40 miles per hour. The Mountain Lions' team score of 345 was the third-best round of the season after yesterday's season-best team score of 339.
Gritz finished with an 83 on the second day and tied for No. 31 in the individual standings. Her two-day total of 165 put her at 21 strokes over par to match her performance from the second RMAC event of the season on Sept. 16-17. Gritz improved her season average by one stroke during the tournament to close out the fall season.
Raquell Castillo improved her second round score to an 86 for the second UCCS score in the round. She tied for No. 55 overall with a 173 for her second-best tournament of the season. Forre Zook improved to a season-best 87 in the today's round for the third Mountain Lion score in the team standings.
Amanda Crites averaged one stroke over par on the par five holes to rank among the tournament leaders and finished with an 89 in the second round for the final team score for UCCS. Her two-round total of 174 was a four-stroke improvement from her season-best at the Grizzly Invitational on Sept. 29.
The Mountain Lions will be off until the start of the spring season March 31-April 1 at the Regis Invitational in Lakewood, Colo.
