COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards, with Sebastian Hertzberg and Brandon Costa winning offensive and defensive honors, respectively.
Hertzberg had a hat trick against Colorado State-Pueblo on Oct. 9 in the Mountain Lion's 3-0 win over the ThunderWolves. The hat trick was the first of Hertzberg's career and the first UCCS hat trick since Jason Stewart scored three goals against Colorado Christian on October 31, 2010.
On the defensive side of the ball, Costa collected his third and fourth shutouts of the season. His first clean sheet came during Hertzberg's hat trick as Costa made two saves in the win. His second shutout of the week came at home against Colorado Mesa in a 0-0 tie that saw Costa make nine saves in the contest.
This is Costa's third time earning RMAC Defensive player of the week honors this season. Costa also moved into a tie with former UCCS goalkeeper Mike Archuleta for second most career shutouts ever in school history with 14.
Costa is ranked top three in the RMAC in multiple statistical categories including shutouts per game, save percentage, goals against average and saves per game.
UCCS will try to complete their current home stand undefeated when they take on Metro State at 7:30 p.m., this Friday at Mountain Lion Stadium. The Mountain Lions are currently 1-0-1 since coming back home.
