ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf team will begin the 2014-15 season receiving votes in the NCAA Division II Golf Coaches Association of America National Preseason Poll. The Mountain Lions earned 22 votes, which would put them No. 36 if the poll was expanded beyond the top 25.
UCCS is one of four RMAC teams ranked or receiving votes. Western New Mexico, the defending conference champion and preseason conference favorite, is ranked No. 18. The Mountain Lions, who were second in the conference preseason poll, are behind Colorado Mines' 34 points among those schools receiving votes. Colorado Christian received two points in the voting.
The Mountain Lions finished two strokes away from a berth in the national tournament last season and return four of their five golfers from the regional championships. In the conference, UCCS has finished in the top three of the standings in 15 of the last 17 seasons.
UCCS will begin the 2014-15 season at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational Sept. 15-16. West Texas A&M will host the tournament at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.
