NEW YORK - The NHL Department of Player Safety has announced that Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke has been suspended for seven games for kneeing Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie in game three on Monday night.
Cooke met with the League's Department of Player Safety on Wednesday morning in New York where he was issued the suspension.
If the suspension is not fully served during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it will carry over to the beginning of the 2014-15 season.
