The Seattle Mariners defeated the Colorado Rockies, 16-6, on Monday afternoon at Peoria Stadium. Colorado has lost three-straight games and are 5-5 this Spring. Seattle took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning and added another run in the third inning. The Rockies struck in the fourth inning when Nolan Arenado led off the inning. On the very first pitch from Taijuan Walker, Arenado belted his fourth home run of the spring and now has hit a home run in three-straight games. Later in the inning, back-to-back-to-back singles to right field from Henry Wrigley, Corey Dickerson and Eric Young Jr. led to two more runs for the purple and black. With the score tied at 3-3, Miguel Batista struck out the first two Mariner hitters but an error two batters later led to an extended inning in which Seattle plated six runs. The Mariners would score five more in the fifth inning giving them a 14-3 lead. Kent Matthes hit his second home run of Spring Training in the sixth inning, a two-run shot, and the Rockies plated another run in the seventh. Seattle capped the scoring with a two-spot in the seventh inning for the final score of 16-6. Tomorrow the Rockies face the Chicago Cubs at Salt River Fields with first-pitch scheduled for 1:10 pm.
