DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed Michael Cuddyer on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.
To take his place on the active roster, Colorado has recalled outfielder Andrew Brown from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Brown (#12) will be in uniform and available for today’s Rockies vs. Marlins game at Coors Field (1:10 p.m. MDT).
Cuddyer, 33, has already missed 11 games while on the disabled list with a strained right oblique this month. In 101 games in his first season with Colorado, Cuddyer is batting .260 (93-for-358) with 30 doubles, 2 triples, 16 home runs, 58 RBI, 8 stolen bases and 53 runs scored. Cuddyer’s 30 doubles are tied for seventh-most in the National League this season. The Norfolk, VA native is a career .271 (1199-for-4430) hitter with 269 doubles, 37 triples, 157 home runs and 638 RBI in 1,240 games over parts of 12 seasons with Minnesota (2001-2011) and Colorado (2012). Cuddyer signed a three-year contract as a free agent with Colorado prior to this season.
Brown, 27, will be in his second stint with the Rockies this season. He played in 11 games with Colorado from 7/17-8/2 and hit .208 (5-for-24) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Brown has spent the balance of 2012 at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he has batted .308 (120-for-390) with 33 doubles, 4 triples, 24 home runs, 98 RBI and 81 runs in 100 games as a Pacific Coast League All-Star. Brown has appeared in the Major Leagues in each of the last two seasons with St. Louis (2011) and Colorado. In 22 games in the Majors, Brown has batted .196 (9-for-46) with 3 doubles and 6 RBI.
The Rockies have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
