DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has reinstated infielder Jason Giambi from the 15-day disabled list. Additionally, the Rockies have recalled right-handed pitcher Guillermo Moscoso from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Both Giambi (#23) and Moscoso (#56) will be available in tonight’s game at Coors Field against San Diego (6:10 p.m. MDT).
Giambi, 41, has batted .241 (19-for-79) with 4 doubles, 1 home run, 8 RBI, 7 runs and 17 walks in 47 games for Colorado this season. Giambi missed 35 games on the disabled list with a viral syndrome. Giambi made five rehab appearances while on the DL, three at Double-A Tulsa and two at Triple-A Colorado Springs. In the five games he hit .385 (5-for-13) with 1 doubles, 1 RBI and 1 run. Giambi has been a member of the Rockies since September 2009, and in 217 games with Colorado he has batted .251 (103-for-410) with 20 doubles, 22 home runs, 86 RBI, 48 runs and 76 walks. The West Covina, California native is a .281 (1967-for-7011) career hitter with 395 doubles, 429 home runs, 1,405 RBI, 1,203 runs scored and 1,331 walks in 2,150 career games with Oakland (1995-2001, 2009), the New York Yankees (2002-08) and Colorado (2009-2012).
Moscoso, 29, has made three starts and 10 relief appearances this season for the Rockies, going 0-1 with a 7.53 ERA (34.2 ip, 29 er) in three stints with the Major League club. Moscoso has spent the remainder of his 2012 season with Triple-A Colorado Springs, going 8-6 with a 6.13 ERA (98.1 ip, 67 er), 26 walks and 85 strikeouts in 18 starts. The Venezuela native is 8-11 with a 4.26 ERA (177.1 ip, 84 er) in 47 career appearances, 24 starts, in parts of four Major League seasons. He was acquired by Colorado along with left-handed pitcher Josh Outman from Oakland in exchange for Seth Smith on January 16, 2012.
