DENVER, Nov. 12, 2012 – Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried has been named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday Nov. 5 through Sunday Nov. 11, the NBA announced today.
Faried was a catalyst for the Nuggets during their four-game winning streak, averaging 16.8 points and 12.8 rebounds while shooting .563 (27-of 48) from the field. He also recorded three double-doubles during that stretch.
Faried tied his career-high with 17 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. He leads the league with 39 offensive rebounds, and his 10.7 rebounds per game are tied for fourth in the NBA.
Faried began the week with a 15-point, eight-rebound performance in Denver’s home-opening victory against the Detroit Pistons on Election Night. He followed that with 16 points and 16 rebounds in a road win at Houston 24 hours later.
Against the Utah Jazz on Nov. 9, Faried had 18 points and 10 rebounds in just 27 minutes, and he capped his big week with 18 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots in Denver’s double-overtime win at Golden State on Nov. 10.
Faried, a member of the 2011-12 NBA All-Rookie First Team, has scored at least 15 points in five straight games for the first time in his career.
This marks the first Player of the Week honor for Faried in his two NBA seasons. He was the Western Conference Rookie of the Month in April 2012.
