Tre' Coggins scored 17 points and Max Yon added 10 to lead Air Force past UC Riverside, 62-52, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena.
The Falcons, who led 26-23 at the half, opened the second half with a 16-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 42-27, with 12:01 left. Coggins scored nine points to key the run. UC Riverside clawed away and was able to get as close as seven points, 51-44, with 4:21 remaining. Junior team co-captain Kamryn Williams, who returned to the lineup today after missing the last seven games due to injury, hit 3-pointers on consecutive Air Force possessions to push the lead to 57-46 with 1:40 remaining. The Falcons were never threatened after that.
Williams finished with eight points and five rebounds in 12 minutes. Marek Olesinski chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds while Hayden Graham added nine points and a career-best eight rebounds. Air Force shot just 29.0 percent from the field, including six-of-27 from 3-point range, but out-rebounded UC Riverside 46-35 with a 15-3 advantage on the offensive glass.
UC Riverside hit 39.1 percent from the field and just 21.4 from 3-point range. The Highlanders had 20 turnovers. Taylor Johns led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead UC Riverside.
Air Force, winners of three straight games, improves to 6-4 overall with the victory. UC Riverside falls to 3-5. The Falcons travel to California for their final non-conference game against UC Davis on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
