The Colorado Springs Sky Sox could only manage to get in one game of Monday’s twin bill before the cold temperatures and wind forced the second game to be postponed.
The Sky Sox (5-6) dropped the seven-inning affair to the Round Rock Express (7-4), 6-3.
The Express struck Sox starter Yohan Flande (0-2) for three runs on five hits and two walks in the first two frames forcing him to throw 68 pitches in just two innings of work.
But the Sky Sox answered right back in the bottom of the second with their first run thanks to a double by 2B Drew Garcia, who was driven in thanks to a single by SS Paul Janish.
The Express scored three more in the fourth inning off RHP Manny Corpas. All three came with two outs courtesy of an RBI single by 3B Alex Buchholz and a two-RBI single by DH Chris Gimenez.
RHP Rob Scahill entered the game in the fifth and shut Round Rock out in the final three innings giving up only a double to RF Brad Snyder, and finished with two punchouts.
Colorado Springs threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning against right-handed submarine pitcher Ben Rowen. Janish led off by getting hit by a pitch, and CF Jason Pridie drove him in with a double to center field. DH Matt McBride later drove Pridie in with a sacrifice fly to center, but the Sox comeback ended their as Rowen got a ground ball out for the final out.
Four players for Round Rock had two hits, led by Buchholz and Gimenez who also had two RBI during the game.
LHP Ryan Feierabend (2-0) got the win for the Express and tossed six innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He struck out three while walking just one.
The Sky Sox and Express will make up the postponed game on Saturday, July 26th at 4:05 p.m. at Security Service Field. They will play a double header that day with both games being seven innings.
The Sox will now take on Oklahoma City in a four-game set in Colorado Springs, beginning Tuesday. The Sky Sox will start Christian Friedrich (0-1, 7.00 ERA) on the mound against the RedHawks, while OKC will put RHP Mike Foltynewicz on the rubber.
