ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Air Force baseball dropped a 17-1 ballgame at #17 New Mexico in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Lobo Field. The Falcons dropped to 13-32, 5-18 and the Lobos improved to 29-17, 19-4.
New Mexico had 25 hits in the game. A five-run third inning, followed by a six-run fourth, put the game out of reach. Rightfielder Chase Harris and third baseman Alex Albritton led the Lobos with four hits each.
Air Force was held to four hits in the game. Senior leftfielder Garrett Custons doubled and scored AFA's lone run in the first inning. Custons hit his 74th career double, tying the school record shared by Mike Thiessen.
Ben Bertelson (1-5) took the loss in the start for the Falcons, striking out two in 3.1 innings pitched. Alex Baker, Todd Del Toro, Bo Wilson and Brady Weaver pitched in relief.
Sam Woff (4-3) struck out seven and allowed one run in 7.2 innings pitched for the win.
The series finale is tomorrow at 1 p.m.
