ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Air Force baseball dropped a 14-7 ballgame at #17 New Mexico in Mountain West action Sunday afternoon at Lobo Field. The Falcons dropped to 13-33, 5-19 and the Lobos improved to 30-17, 20-4. Senior catcher Garrett Custons set a new school record for doubles for AFA.
Custons went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. With his first double, Custons surpassed the previous record of 74, held by Mike Thiessen. Custons how has 76 doubles so far in his career and 21 on the season.
New Mexico rapped out 21 hits and scored in all but the eighth inning. The Lobos hit three home runs, two by catcher Mitch Garver and one by right fielder Chase Harris. Garver went 4-for-6 with six RBIs to lead UNM.
Air Force had 14 hits. Senior second baseman Matthew Roberts went 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored. It was Roberts' first home run since 2010. Junior first baseman Seth Kline and freshman third baseman Spencer Draws added two hits.
Josh Walker (8-0) picked up the win in relief for New Mexico. Starting pitcher A.J. Carman allowed four runs in 2.2 innings pitched.
Freshman Steven Trojan (3-5) took the loss in the start for the Falcons, pitching 2.2 innings. Freshman Trent Monaghan, senior Jack Hourin, sophomore Ben Yokley and sophomore Dillon Freeman pitched in relief for the Falcons.
Air Force returns to action Friday, May 10, at San Diego State.
