The fifth, 117.9-mile stage of the USA Pro Challenge ended in Colorado Springs Friday afternoon.

Friday's largely downhill stage began with a 10-mile opening climb from Breckenridge to Hoosier Pass at 11,500 feet. A few other small climbs tested the field but the long downhill finish made for a high-speed finish.

The riders looped through downtown Colorado Springs three times before finally finishing at Tejon Street and Pikes Peak around 3 p.m.

Tyler Farrar won the stage and American Tejay van Garderen defended his Yellow Jersey.

Twenty riders have dropped out since the race began, including seven riders who didn't finish the fourth stage from Aspen to Beaver Creek on Thursday.

Germany's Jens Voigt won that stage while American Tejay Van Garderen regained his tiebreaker edge for the overall lead.

The 683-mile race will continue Saturday with cyclists going from Golden to Boulder. It ends Sunday with a short individual time trial in Denver.
