NEW ORLEANS – The University of Colorado men’s cross country team is ranked third in the nation according to the first regular-season USTFCCCA Top-30 Coaches’ Poll. The CU women dropped one spot to 15th in the poll.
The CU men are the top-rated Pac-12 Conference team in the poll and picked up 336 points to stay at third. Oklahoma State held on to the top spot with 359 points and 11 first-place votes. Northern Arizona recorded 348 points and the final first-place vote. BYU remained fourth in the poll with 313 points. The next highest ranked Pac-12 team, next to CU, is No. 12 Oregon.
On the women’s side, Providence is the favorite with 360 points (12 first-place votes). Florida State is second (344) and Oregon is third with 333 points. The Buffs picked up 197 points to move from 14th to 15th overall. The CU women are the fifth highest ranked Pac-12 team in the poll. Next to Oregon, Arizona is ranked fifth, Washington is seventh and Stanford sits at eighth.
There was no change for the Buffs in the Mountain Region rankings, which were released on Monday, as women held on to the top spot and the men stayed at No. 2 behind Northern Arizona.
The next race for the Buffs is September 28 when they host the 28th Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on CU’s Campus at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course. The women’s 5.8-kilometer race will be first at 9 a.m. and the men will run their 8k course at 9:45 a.m. Admission and parking are free.
