GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo's Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CNMI) has stamped her ticket for the NCAA Division II Championships in Daytona Beach May 15-18 after finishing third at the West Super Regional Tuesday.
Kim, who led the field after the first and second rounds, fell off considerably in round three, shooting a 12-over-par 83 to fall back to the pack. The lost strokes, though, weren't crucial as the seven-stroke pad she brought into the final round was enough to keep her in third place at 18-over-par.
With St. Edward's, Grand Canyon and Tarleton State advancing its teams from the regional, Kim snatched one of three individual spots to the National Championships. Sonoma State's Spencer Heller claimed the top individual spot after winning the tournament, finishing a stroke ahead of Kim. Kim took the second spot while Dallas Baptist's Mercedes Rios took the third individual spot.
The NCAA Division II Championships, being held at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., begins May 15.
