COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado College helped Rick Swan celebrate his 500th match as head coach with a pair of victories on Saturday that produced a championship at its own season-opening CC Invitational at Reid Gymnasium.
The 4-0 Tigers rallied from behind to beat previously undefeated Augsburg College, 3-2 (20-25, 27-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11) in their first match of the day before clinching the tournament title with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) triumph over Pacific University to complete their weekend sweep.
Sophomore Emily Phillips and freshman Abbe Holtze led the charge against the Auggies, finishing with 18 and 17 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Devon Lucero of Pueblo contributed 58 assists while sophomore defensive specialist Sophie Merrifield recorded 27 digs. Holtze added 14 more kills against Pacific, while Phillips had 11.
