St. Cloud State University hasn't backed down from anyone yet this season.

And, on Saturday, the Huskies showed again that they are nowhere near ready to concede what could be the program's first-ever WCHA regular-season title.

Seventh-ranked SCSU got goals from five different players, overcoming an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Colorado College, 5-2, and earn a split of their weekend series at the World Arena that kept the visitors alone at the top of the league standings with just two weekends of action remaining.

“St. Cloud State played like a desperate team, desperate for a split,” CC head coach Scott Owens said after seeing his team's six-game unbeaten streak screech to a halt. “They looked like a first-place team tonight.”

Freshman winger Jonny Brodzinski fueled the triumph with a pair of assists to go along with his third tally of the series, while sophomore defenseman Andrew Prochno helped set up three goals.

The Huskies, now 19-12-1 overall and 16-7-1 in WCHA play, lead second-place University of Minnesota by two points. North Dakota and Nebraska Omaha, which are tied for third in the extremely tight standings, each are a point behind the Gophers while Minnesota State University lingers just a point further back in fifth place.

The Tigers, meanwhile, remain in the eighth spot as their hopes for a home playoff berth continue to fade. Now 12-14-5 overall and 9-11-4 in conference play, they trail five-place Denver and Wisconsin by five points in the race for an upper-division finish.

Senior center Rylan Schwartz struck twice for CC on Saturday, the first time just 3:48 into the contest after junior defenseman Eamonn McDermott sprang him on a breakaway.

But SCSU bounced back with four straight goals, including one by team co-captain Ben Hanowski with 2.2 seconds showing on the second-period clock, to lead 4-1 after 40 minutes of play. Hanowski's 13th tally of the season came on a counter-rush after sophomore netminder Ryan Faragher made a point-blank stop on Scott Winkler at the other end, and capped a three-goal frame for St. Cloud State.

The Huskies held Colorado College to five shots on target in each of the first two stanzas before finishing with a 26-19 advantage for the night.

Joining Brodzinski and Hanowski with goals were Kalle Kossila, Cory Thorson and Joey Benik.

McDermott also assisted on Schwartz's second tally and 14th of the season at 4:12 of the third period.
