ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley was voted by fans as the DISH Unbeatable Value Player of the Year, it was announced.
The inaugural award, sponsored by DISH, recognizes a player that exceeds fan expectations. Whether a free agent or draft choice, a low-profile acquisition or a backup player that takes on the role of unsung hero, the award epitomizes the unbeatable value DISH is committed to providing its customers.
Stokley was signed by the Broncos last April and went on to play 15 games (9 starts) for Denver in the regular season, catching 45 passes for 544 yards (12.1 avg.) with five touchdowns. He became just the 10th player in NFL history to record 40 receptions and five touchdowns in a season at age 36 or older.
The 14-year veteran also caught three passes for 27 yards (9.0 avg.) and a score in Denver’s AFC Divisional Playoff Game against Baltimore to join Keenan McCardell as the only players in league annals to record a postseason receiving score with four different teams.
Stokley received 65 percent of the 3,621 votes cast by fans on DenverBroncos.com, beating out defensive end Derek Wolfe (13%), safety Mike Adams (8%), center Dan Koppen (75), linebacker Keith Brooking (5%), linebacker Danny Trevathan (3%) and safety Jim Leonhard (2%) for the honor.
One lucky fan who participated in the voting will received a football autographed by Stokley. Additionally, Stokley will receive a one-year subscription to one of DISH’s satellite television programming packages.
