BRONCOS RING OF FAME WR ROD SMITH NAMED HONORARY CAPTAIN FOR AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Former Broncos wide receiver and 2012 Ring of Fame inductee Rod Smith will serve as an honorary captain for the team’s AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots on Sunday (1:05 p.m. MST, CBS).
Smith will be available to the media in the front lobby of the team’s training facility in Englewood on Friday at 11 a.m.
A three-time Pro Bowler (2000-01, ‘05), Smith set club records in career receptions (849), receiving yards (11,389) and receiving touchdowns (68) while playing in 183 regular-season games (158 starts) over 12 seasons (1994-2007).
An integral part of the Broncos’ two Super Bowl Championship teams (1997-98), Smith also owns franchise postseason receiving records in catches (49), receiving yards (860) and receiving touchdowns (6). He saw action in 13 career playoff games, including his performance in Super Bowl XXXIII when he tallied five receptions for 152 yards and a touchdown in Denver’s 34-19 victory over Atlanta.
Signed by the Broncos as a college free agent from Division II Missouri Southern in 1994, Smith’s career receptions and receiving yards rank as the most by an undrafted player in NFL history.
His 849 catches currently rank 22nd all-time in league annals, while his 11,389 receiving yards stand 26th. He compiled six-consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons from 1997-2002, also producing a team-record eight such campaigns overall. Smith also registered a franchise-best 30 100-yard receiving games during his career, including a personal-best eight contests during the 2000 season.
