Air Force’s Chris Truehl named AHA Rookie of the Month

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force freshman goaltender Chris Truehl was named the Pop Tops Sportswear / Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for February.

Truehl led Air Force to three wins in the month of February with all three victories coming over teams that finished in the top four in the league. He made 21 saves in the win over UConn on Feb. 1. The Stoughton, Wisc., native then led the Falcons to a sweep of first-place Mercyhurst, Feb. 8-9, at the Academy. Truehl was named the AHA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 10 following the sweep. He made 34 saves, the second most of his career, in the 5-3 win over the Lakers on Feb. 7. In the series finale, he stopped all 24 shots he faced as he blanked the top scoring offense in the conference. The shutout was the third of his career.

Truehl is a three-time AHA Rookie of the Week and earned the first monthly honor of his career.

Air Force (20-12-4 overall) is the No. 3 seed in the AHA Tournament and has a bye in the first round of the AHA Tournament. The Falcons will host an AHA quarterfinal series against an opponent not yet determined on Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, and Sunday, March 16, if necessary, at the Academy's Cadet Ice Arena.
