U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Fencing Committee has announced the field of 144 competitors who will participate in the 2014 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships. Ohio State will host the championships at French Fieldhouse in Columbus, Ohio.
Air Force will have five fencers making the trip to the Columbus, March 20 to March 23, with the championships bouts being held on March 21 and March 23. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. on March 20 and March 22 and at 9 a.m. on March 21 and March 23.
The five Air Force fencers earned their spots on the national list after qualifying at the NCAA West Regionals in Pasadena, Calif., on March 8 in their respective disciplines.
In women's individual foil, sophomore Madeleine Girardot, undefeated in pools (8-0), won the foil title. Mary McElwee, who is making her second trip to the NCAAs (2013), was 7-1 in pools and finished as the first runner-up.
