U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – The Air Force football team will be returning to Michigan to take on the Wolverines in Michigan Stadium on Sept. 16, 2017. In addition to the football meeting, the men’s basketball team will play a future scheduled game at Michigan as part of the deal reached between the two schools. The season and date for the men’s basketball game is to be determined.

The football teams will be playing for the third time overall with all meetings being in Ann Arbor, Mich. Michigan defeated Air Force, 31-25, last season in front of 112,522 which is the largest crowd Air Force has ever played in front of. Michigan defeated Air Force, 24-7, in Ann Arbor in front of 68,888 in 1964. The head coaches were Bump Elliott for Michigan and the legendary Ben Martin for Air Force. Former Air Force superintendent Paul Stein was the Falcons’ quarterback that day, while Bart Holaday handled the kicking duties. Holaday and his late wife, Lynn, were the primary donors for the Holaday Athletic Center, Air Force athletics’ indoor practice facility, which was opened in the fall of 2011. Joe O’Gorman, who donated the O’Gorman Theatre in the Falcon Athletic Center was a defensive end for Air Force that year. Jim Bowman, a 1956 graduate of Michigan, was an assistant coach on the Air Force staff. Bowman worked 48 years at the Academy before retiring in 2007 as the associate athletic director for recruiting support.
