U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Senior Andrew Hamburg scored four goals to lead 19th-ranked Colorado College to a 6-2 win over Air Force in a non-conference college hockey game Friday, Oct. 19, at a sold out Cadet Ice Arena. Air Force fell to 0-1-2 overall this season while CC improved to 3-0.

Air Force scored on its first shot on goal as junior Jason Fabian scored his second of the season. Ryan Timar forced a turnover in the Tigers’ end and Ben Persian tipped the puck to the right side where Fabian beat Josh Thorimbert high blocker side.

The Tigers then scored the next three goals, all by Hamburg. Hamburg tied the game at 1:42 of the second period after linemate Cody Bradley won a faceoff in the offensive zone. Two minutes and four seconds later, Hamburg gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead on the power play. Eamonn McDermott made a long outlet pass to Hamburg at the far blue line. Hamburg split two defensemen and skated in uncontested on Jason Torf at 3:46. At the 13:34 mark, Hamburg secured the natural hat trick from Bradley and Hunter Fejes on the rush. Late in the period, John Kruse scored on the power play to cut the CC lead to 3-2. Alex Halloran fed Tony Thomas on the right wing and Thomas skated in and took a shot that was saved. Kruse cleaned up the rebound at 16:49 for his second of the season.
Just over a minute into the third period, Scott Winkler scored on a blast from the right point for a 4-2 Tiger lead. Hamburg netted his fourth of the game at the 7:08 mark for a 5-2 lead. Bradley made a centering pass from the wall to Hamburg who was wide open in front. Just over two minutes later, Winkler scored on the power play for a 6-2 lead. His second of the game came on a point shot at 9:44.
Colorado College outshot Air Force, 41-21, in the game. CC was 2-for-5 on the power play while AFA was 1-for-5. Torf made a season high 35 saves for the Falcons. Thorimbert made 19 saves for the Tigers.
“We have to go back to square one,” head coach Frank Serratore said. “We have to get back to the basics. I give them a lot of credit. They took advantage of our mistakes. Right now, we are not a very good team. We have to play like a team and we didn’t tonight. We can’t play like individuals. We died of self-inflicted wounds. CC was the better team tonight.”
Air Force travels north on I-25 to face the seventh-ranked Denver Pioneers, Saturday, Oct. 20, at Magness Arena in Denver.
