U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – The Mountain West Conference announced today the rotational sequence and matchups, beginning with the first four-year cycle (2013-16). The scheduling format for the new 12-member football lineup was computer-generated and consists of five intra-divisional games and three cross-divisional contests annually. Each institution will play four home and four road conference games each year and will play every Mountain West opponent home and away during each four-year cycle. The entire four-year sequence repeats beginning in 2017 and continues thereafter. Dates, times and television exposure for 2013 will be announced at a later date.
Beginning in the fall of 2013, conference membership for football includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawai’i, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV in the West Division.
Air Force will play host to San Diego State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming while traveling to Boise State, Colorado State, Nevada and New Mexico in 2013. The Falcons will miss playing Fresno State, Hawai’i and San Jose State. The schedule flips home and away in 2014, meaning Air Force hosts Boise State, Colorado State, Nevada and New Mexico while playing on the road at San Diego State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming.
Air Force will host Fresno State, San Jose State, Utah State and Wyoming in 2015 while traveling to those schools the following year. The Falcons play at Boise State, Colorado State, Hawai’i and New Mexico in 2015 while hosting the four schools in 2016. Air Force misses playing Nevada, San Diego State and UNLV in 2015 and 2016.
“The scheduling process was as fair and equitable as it could be and I salute our conference leadership and each school for working hard to get a schedule in place,” said Air Force Director of Athletics Dr. Hans Mueh. “There is still a lot of work to do with football and the other sports, but this was a great first step in the process.”
The remainder of Air Force’s 2013 schedule features Colgate on Aug. 31 in Falcon Stadium and playing at Navy on Oct. 5. Notre Dame comes to Falcon Stadium on Oct. 26 followed by Army on Nov. 2.
