COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force women’s soccer dropped a 3-1 match to Texas Friday night at Washburn Field on the Colorado College campus. The loss dropped the Falcons to 1-4-1 and improved the Longhorns to 4-2-1. Due to inclement weather, the game was moved to Washburn Field after the surface at the Cadet Soccer Stadium was deemed unplayable. The game was also moved back one hour to a 7 p.m. start.
The Falcons struck first with a goal in the ninth minute to take an early lead. Texas scored just four minutes later to tie the game. The Longhorns would later get a pair of goals by Jasmine Smith to pull away with the win.
Freshman Maddie Lundberg netted her first-career goal for the Falcons. She was able to clean up a loose ball in the middle of the box for the score. Freshman Ashley Greco was credited with her fourth assist of the season.
Texas tied the match up with a goal by Kelsey Shimmick in the 13th minute. Marchelle Davis assisted on the score.
The Longhorns went ahead in the 48th minute on Hart’s first goal. Lindsey Meyer picked up the assist. Hart scored again in the 54th minute for the third Texas score with Ali Schmalz assisting.
Air Force had seven shots in the match, 10 for Texas. Senior Kelly Stambaugh had two saves for the Falcons in goal.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Sept. 15, hosting Ball State. Kickoff is 12 pm.
