Closing out the first half of its conference slate, the Air Force women’s basketball team dropped a 67-44 contest to New Mexico Tuesday evening in The Pit.

Senior captain Jamela Satterfield (Sacramento, Calif.) led the Falcons with a career-high-tying 14 points, while Dymond James (Jr., Brambleton, Va.) added 13 points. Meanwhile, Kami Bohannon (So., DeSoto, Texas) registered a career-best nine points and six rebounds in her first career start.

For the Lobos, Porche Torrance and Jayme Jackson scored 13 points each to lead the team, while Caroline Durbin added 11 points.

New Mexico (7-14, 1-6) started out the game with a three-pointer in their opening possession and never looked back, as Air Force (5-17, 0-7) never came closer than a single point. In the first half, the Falcons shot just 25 percent from the field and committed 11 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Lobos were able to take care of the ball, recording just three turnovers before going into the intermission with a 37-18 advantage.

Although Air Force shot better in the second half, knocking down over 40 percent of its shots, the Falcons were unable to cut into their deficit. New Mexico led by as many as 27 points and retained control of the game in the 67-44 victory.

The Falcons were plagued with foul trouble, particularly in the first half, when three players sat on the bench with three fouls each. Air Force was also outrebounded by New Mexico, as the Lobos held a 42-36 advantage on the glass and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.

The Falcons return to action Saturday, Feb. 4, when they host in-state rival Colorado State in a 2:00 p.m. contest. Prior to the game, Air Force will host a clinic for youths in eighth grade and below in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
