Hooked - (Stacia Naquin)
Updated: 10/11/2013 - I'm SO CLOSE to being able to do a pull-up. So my trainer introduced something new into my training.
USAFA, Colo. – Sophomore Jimi Blagowsky (Edmond, Okla.) notched a career-high 19 points to help the Air Force women’s basketball team to a 77-72 victory over Boise State Wednesday evening in Clune Arena.
Blagowsky, who reached double-figures for the second-straight game, knocked down 7-of-12 field goals, including 3-of-4 from long range, and also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
Seniors Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.) and Dymond James (Brambleton, Va.) added 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Falcons, and Cherae Medina (Jr., Denver, Colo.) registered nine points and a career-best 11 assists. Meanwhile, Lauren Lenhardt led three Broncos in double-figures, finishing with a game-high 33 points.
After trailing early in the game, Air Force (4-21, 3-9) went on a 17-2 run to take control in the opening half, earning a 31-19 advantage with 5:58 on the clock. While Boise State (10-14, 3-8) was able to get back within four points, the Falcons went into the locker room with a 37-30 lead.
Air Force continued to pull away after the break, pushing its lead to 15 points with a three-point play by Leipprandt with just over nine minutes left to play. However, the Broncos responded by scoring the next nine points and were able to cut the margin to 65-63 with 3:09 remaining. While Boise State missed its next three free throws that could have tied the game, the Falcons hit their foul shots down the stretch to hold on for the 77-72 victory.
The Falcons, who entered the game averaging 61 percent from the charity stripe, were a perfect 21-of-21 from the line, the program’s best-ever single game performance. Leipprandt led the way at the foul line, knocking down 7-of-7 free throws for the game.
Air Force is off this weekend, but returns to action next Wednesday, Feb. 27, when they visit Wyoming in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
