Colorado College 36, Sewanee 26

On yet another milestone Saturday at historic Washburn Field, Colorado College served notice that it’s a team to be reckoned with in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers made their SCAC debut a memorable one, posting an impressive 36-26 victory over Sewanee: The University of the South while improving to 2-0 overall for the season. Junior quarterback Jon McDonald, in just his second career start for CC, threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Victimized by a pair of interceptions in the first half, McDonald came out after the intermission and engineered three consecutive scoring drives that increased a 20-19 CC lead to a 17-point spread with 3:38 left to play. His TD strikes of 44, 1 and 30 yards went to three different receivers – Justin Alexander, Nolan Swett and Ross Alisiani – with Swett becoming the program’s all-time leader with the 22 nd touchdown reception of his career. Swett hauled in six passes altogether for the afternoon, good for 109 yards, while Alisani made a career-high 10 catches for 98 more. McDonald finished with 25 completions in 31 attempts.

On the other side of the line, the Tiger defense turned in another solid performance with three goal-line stands that yielded only three total points for the visitors from Tennessee. Sophomore safety Brendan Ross led CC with 14 tackles, including six solos, while junior linebacker Josh Underwood was in on 12. Senior cornerback Drew Gallaugher and senior cornerback Adam Grush each recovered a fumble Colorado College, which recorded victories in its final two games last season, has won four consecutive games for the first time since 1993 and is off to a 2-0 to start for the first time since 1994.
