Buffalo Bills reserve tight end Kevin Everett remains in an intensive care unit and will spend one to two days under sedation -- as doctors evaluate the extent of a severe spinal injury that could leave him paralyzed.

That's what a partner of the player's agent tells The Associated Press.

Everett sustained what the team called a cervical spine injury on a helmet-to-helmet hit during the second-half kickoff of a loss to the visiting Denver Broncos.

He was taken off the field by ambulance about 15 minutes later and transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The Bills team doctor is expected to provide a medical update later today.
