Colorado left-fielder Matt Holliday is being awarded the Rockies' 2007 Roberto Clemente award to recognize his skills on the field and off.

The 27-year-old native of Stillwater, Okla., is now one of the 30 major league nominees for a national award.

Holliday's award comes on the sixth anniversary of Roberto Clemente Day, established to honor the memory of the 12-time All-Star and Hall of Famer. Clemente was killed on New Year's Eve 1972 as he tried to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.

The Rockies vice president of community and retail operations, Jim Kellogg, calls Holliday a "quiet and humble leader in the Rockies community."

Award sponsor Chevrolet, along with Holliday, will donate $7,500 to the Mike Coolbaugh Memorial Fund.
