BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- The Colorado Buffaloes' new depth chart lists Cody Hawkins as the top quarterback ahead of junior college transfer Nick Nelson.
Hawkins is the son of coach Dan Hawkins.
Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mark Helfrich says the redshirt freshman earned the starting job with his consistency.
Coach Hawkins says the depth chart could still change before the Buffaloes open the season September 1st against Colorado State.
The team also said today that freshman wide receiver Josh Smith was hospitalized for observation last evening after bruising his kidney in a scrimmage yesterday. He is out indefinitely.
Meanwhile junior linebacker Marcus Burton is academically ineligible for the season.
