DENVER (AP) -- You might not find the final installment of the "Harry Potter" series on Jason Elam's (EE'-lum's) bookshelf.

But you will find the Denver Broncos' special teams playbook, the Bible, the Quran, and any number of other religious texts.

You see, when the 37-year-old kicker isn't kicking, or practicing, he's studying the world's major religions.

Twelve of them.

Elam recently enrolled in a distance-learning program at Liberty University's seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he's pursuing a master's degree in global apologetics.

Elam calls it a passion -- to travel, meet people of different cultures and faiths, understand why they believe what they believe, and, as a Christian, to defend the faith.

Elam says his Protestant faith teaches him to have answers for those who question him, but he says it's supposed to be done in a loving way.
