Bonds hits home run #754

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Barry Bonds is within one home run of tying Hank Aaron's record of 755.

The Giants slugger launched a two-run shot to center off Florida Marlins starter Rick Vanden Hurk in the first inning of Friday's game at San Francisco. It was his 20th homer of the season, and first since he belted two against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field last Thursday.

Bonds went 3-for-18 between his 753rd and 754th home runs.
Vanden Hurk became the 444th pitcher - and the first from the Netherlands - to surrender a homer to Bonds.

The ball was grabbed by 38-year-old Eric Stormer, a general contractor and season ticket holder from nearby Martinez.

Commissioner Bud Selig was not there to see it, sending MLB president and C-O-O Bob DuPuy in his place. Selig was back in Milwaukee, preparing to go to Sunday's Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Cooperstown.
