Nationals 3, Rockies 0

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Felipe Lopez homered and Mike Bacsik pitched into the seventh inning to lead the Washington Nationals to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

Pinch-hitter Tony Batista singled to drive in two runs in the seventh, and Chad Cordero pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save.

Bacsik (2-6) was 1-6 in his last nine starts but tamed the Rockies by holding them to only one hit after the first inning. He left to a standing ovation with two outs in the seventh after surrendering three hits, three walks and striking out two.

Relievers Saul Rivera, Luis Ayala and Cordero retired the final seven batters to preserve the three-hitter.

Lopez spoiled a solid performance by Colorado starter Rodrigo Lopez.

With one out in the sixth, he hit a 3-2 pitch over the 380-feet marker on the right-field fence for his fifth homer of the season. Lopez last homered on July 8 to end a homerless streak of 152 at-bats.

Rodrigo Lopez (5-3) has been brilliant at Coors Field this season (5-0, 3.55 ERA) but has struggled on the road, where he is 0-3.

He retired 14 of the first 15 batters he faced, but Washington eventually broke through. Lopez went six innings, surrendered five hits, one walk and struck out three.

The Rockies' offense didn't help his cause and slumped to 0-for-16 in the series with runners in scoring position.

Lopez gave up a leadoff double to Ryan Church in the seventh before walking Austin Kearns. After a sacrifice bunt by D'Angelo Jimenez, a groundout by Brian Schneider and intentional walk to pinch-hitter Dmitri Young, Batista drove in Church and Kearns with a groundball through the left side that made the score 3-0.

Bacsik gave up two hits to start the game but got out of trouble thanks to a double play and flyout.

Colorado also threatened in the seventh, when Bacsik walked Todd Helton with one out and Ryan Spilborghs with two outs. But Ayala came on to fan Troy Tulowitzki and end the inning. ^Notes: Washington has scored three or fewer runs in 33 of 97 (34 percent) games this season. The Nationals are 3-30 in those games. ...
