Adventurous drivers take on Pikes Peak

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Adventurous drivers are testing their skills against a 14-thousand-110-foot mountain in this week's annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The hill climb is the second-oldest sanctioned automobile race in the United States behind the Indianapolis 500.

Drivers and riders have been participating in practice and qualifying runs leading up to Saturday's 12-point-42-mile race. In all there will be 56 drivers and 109 riders competing in 19 divisions which range from motorcycles to trucks and cars.

The race gets under way at 9 a-m Saturday in Colorado Springs with competitors in cars and trucks first followed by motorcyclists.
