DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Rockies are putting left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes on the disabled list because of a mild back strain.
Fuentes was placed on the list for 15 days beginning July 4.
The pitcher was the Rockies' closer for most of the season chalking up 20 saves in 26 opportunities. He was demoted after he blew four straight saves during a road trip.
He last pitched on July third against the Mets and retired all three batters he faced.
Colorado called up infielder Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Colorado Springs to fill Fuentes' roster spot.
Quintanilla was expected to be in uniform Friday night as the Rockies face the Brewers in Milwaukee.
