Former Wasson football player found dead

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- The victim of a drive-by shooting in Colorado Springs on Monday is being identified as a Wasson High School graduate, and member of the Western State College football team.

Police say 19-year-old Diontea Jackson-Forrest was shot a little after midnight yesterday in central Colorado Springs. His vehicle ran off the road, then hit a fence and a tree.

Jackson-Forrest was pronounced dead at a hospital about three hours later.

A makeshift memorial is now growing at the intersection of Printers Parkway and International Circle, where the vehicle went off the road.

He graduated from Wasson in 2006.

Police are still trying to figure out who fired the shots that struck Jackson-Forest.

Authorities are asking for anyone with information on the case to call Detective Mike Happ at 719-444-7673 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP.

more and more everyday it pisses me off that he got shot. he didn't deserve it and his family didn't deserve it either. he had a great life ahead of him. i didn't know him personally, but one of my teachers went to wasson and i've heard enough about it and seen enough that i know he didn't deserve that. RIP DIONTEA JACKSON-FORREST. i never knew him but you'll always be my football star #22. love you.

We grieve the loss of such a nice young man. I didn't know him personally, but I was one of his big fans at the Wasson football games, along with many others. My children know him and speak very kindly of him. He will always be our star number 22. I also know some of the people who tried to help him survive the gunshot wound. They were all taken down by the sorrowful death of a good man. We will never forget Diontea, those beautiful eyes and smile, but most of all, his spirit! He had a heck of a spirit that filled us all, just not long enough.
